Spring & Easter 2015

This Spring season has been filled with homeschool days, parent pick up runs, nursing home visits, choir practice, a nasty virus that wiped out this Mama and kiddos, a spring performance (He is risen, He is risen, Oh happy day!) AND…. spring break-whahooo!!!

Our spring break has been wonderful! We soaked up Some quiet afternoons, lots of sun, friends and good family time. The kids spent one quiet morning hunting for the sneaky candy thief who left clues to their missing candy stash. We also enjoyed the beach with lots of friends, a great family date to Texas Long Horns and of course Busch Gardens! We ended the week with a sleep over at the Kosters and a day on Uncle Ryan’s boat. We even got to meet, and more iportantly, integrate my cousin DJ’s and johnathon’s new girlfriends.

We are currently on our way home from uncle Pete and aunt Sue’s house for Easter dinner and we are stuck in some sort of traffic jam for the past hour!!!!  (1 hr trip took 2 hrs!) We have resorted to playing the Grocery store game (a Wells classic) with the kids. It’s about 9:30 PM, that’s like 2am in kid world, and the kids are exhausted. during Cora’s turn, she said she bought “Ch R” and said it was two words. She also told us that she could not tell us the name of the store. SHe said the name of the store would giveaway that item. Andy and I did our best to keep guesing, but eventually insisted she had to tell us the store or get a different item from Publix. Out of nowhere this bubbly, chatty-Kathy Started crying a heartbreaking cry, saying that she does not know much about other stores, she only knows about art. She shared that she had not memorized everything at Publix grocery store. She finally shared that the Ch R item was the word “tractor” from the tractor supply store. And even that, she shared, was just because she had heard something about a tractor store but she really doesn’t know much about that either. As she continued the sweetest most pathetic cry,  she insisted that she doesn’t know much about anything other than art and had to play her game getting items at a craft store. I was almost in tears at this point myself laughing at the pure heartache and she was experiencing over this simple game. Meanwhile, exhausted  Jack has continued to play paying very little attention to the beginning sound that is supposed to be the main clue.  He repeat actively shouted out things like “licorice” or “ceral” Eve though the clue given was the letter “t”.  Andy was calm Cora down and get her to try again, shopping of course at The craft store.

Jack William is 4!

untitled-67 untitled untitled-11

Dear Jack William, (adding William is usually reserved for my stern voice, but it kinda rolls off my to tongue and I like the sound of it!)

Happy birthday to the most excited birthday boy ever! You could hardly wait for this day! Even in Miss Molly’s class’s she said you, unlike your classmates, proudly wore your birthday crown ALL day. You are becoming quite the little boy. Somewhere over the past year you went from following your sister around to playing good guys and bad guys. You have ventured into Legos, octanots, superheroes and most recently teenage mutant ninja turtles. You are so obsessed with TMNT. I think you believe you are one of the ninja turtles, so for your birthday we bought you a few dress up toys to get into your character. You have also changed daddies identity to the shredder and rarely let him come out of character. You also love wrestling showing everyone how fast you are, being dirty and using your imagination. You also enjoy coloring and tend to spend quite a bit of time with Cora at the art table in the playroom. Over the past month or so, you and Cora are working pretty hard on all of your art for the art show- which I understand will be about 20 people at our house all here to invest big money into your masterpieces.

Your days have been filled over the past year with loving on your baby brother, whom you adore, and playing with Cora. Dean thinks you hung the moon, while Cora thinks you should hang it for her. With Dean you are a superhero that he admires and with Cora you are a little boy to lecture in her never ending classroom. You have enjoyed your 2 days a week in Miss Molly’s 3 yr old class and have loved making some good buddies along with continuing your love affair with Miss Caroline. Molly reports that you are very bright and can do most tasks very well.

Some of my favorite moments with you are usually putting you to bed. He went through a phase where you would grab my cheeks and tell me what is your “best mama” and I would tell you you are my “best Jack”. You’ve always been a bit of a romantic as you have a big heart full of love. I also have loved watching you care for your baby brother. You take full responsibility for him when he’s in your zone and have even asked me on occasion if I wouldn’t mind watching him so you could go to the bathroom. I also love the times when you and I can steal a few minutes to ourselves or have a mommy son date. Back in the fall we played with some of your John Deer tractors in the mud where we were landscaping and high-fived our wheels saying “hi wheels”. Moments where I can get lost in your imagination and give you all of my attention are So sweet and are never boring. I am very aware that you are now a middle child and I do my best to get away and still moments like this with you as often as I can.

Jack, you are such a sweet boy and I am so blessed to be your mommy. I believe that God will use you in great ways as you learn about his unconditional love for you. You want to following in Cora’s footsteps and ask Jesus into your heart. We have not ran with this desire just yet as we are waiting for you to have a better understanding  and know what it means to be a disciple of Jesus’. But, I pray that this year you will get closer to understanding what it all means and finally make that decision! Daddy and I often pray that you are a leader using your smile and big heart to influence others for God wherever He takes you!  Love Mommy!

Baby Dean is ONE!

Dear Dean, It was bound to happen, my sweet little baby isn’t much of a baby anymore. You are walking and all! I had denied your enthusiasm to walk as long as I could, but as of 11 1/2 months you’ve  been taking steps more and more. Now you just cruise around and love your new freedom. Just before you turned one you started learning how to turn and change directions, and you couldn’t have been more proud of. You love the attention you get when we all gather on the family room floor to let you walk between us as we clap at every step. Your personality is becoming more and more evident as well. You love to make us laugh with silly games like peekaboo and ramming your head into our legs as you cruise around the house. You love finding hats and baskets to put on his head and has started finding shoes and attempt to put them on all while looking around for your audience. You still lovesl wrestle time and if anybody is on the ground you think they are fair game for playing rough and jumping on. Lately you will lay yourself flat on the ground when we say “night night” it’s adorable. You have also learned to “turn” and go backwards down the deck step so you too can at last join all of the ruckus happening in the backyard. You are determined to get up that slippery slide! You are still nursing four times a day and it has been going well even with my recent 15 K race we have been able to maintain good eating. I’m not in a huge rush to stop nursing as this could potential be my last little guy. I suppose we should start moving towards weaning sooner than later. You eat a ton of solid food and it seems that every time I turnaround your high chair tray is magically empty as you smile with food all over your face. You love hummus and crackers Cheerios and almost all kinds of fruit. You are also a great sport about vegetables and likes avocado green beans carrots sweet potatoes almost all of it.

Over the past month ypu have really perfected your sweet little “mama” and it’s enough to melt my heart. You have also learned the power of your index finger and pointing at things means people will carry you wherever you desire. One of my favorite things is showing you books and pointing out the different animals. I also get a kick out of watching you in the bathtub. You love baths. Just tonight I was using the removable showerhead to spray you and you thought it was hilarious as you tried to chase the water with your hands. One of your other favorite things is finding marker caps, Lincoln logs, Crayons, or any other cylinder shaped object to chew on as you explore the house. You love making a mess of Cora and Jack’s art area which means he pretty much fits right in there.

I’m so greatful to be your Mama and spend my days snuggling you and caring for you. I pray that you have a love for life and for God that is contagious and that you know your Heavenly Father from a young age!

Happy First Birthday Dean! Love Mama

Dear Dean, Wow!! How did that happen? I can’t believe you are already a year. I feel like it has flown by.

So your mom and I had these big plans to celebrate our 10yr anniversary last summer…you had other plans. Having a child March doesn’t come with much “parent only” travel in the months to follow, but if there was anything I would put those

Plans off for it is my sweet little Deanasour!!

Dean, you are a bundle of joy. And this isn’t one of those cute, like I’m just trying to be sentimental and sappy, you seriously are the sweetest!! I remember we took you with us the Busch Gardens once and completely missed all your naps, were hot, and didn’t eat like you should have, yet you were still all smiles!! You are often a breathe of fresh happiness in the midst of a crazy life.

As soon as you could kinda crawl you have jumped right in to wrestle time. Jack and I have had quiet a tradition of wrestlemanias and you needed to be a part of it. And you came with no fear! Of course you have the best big brother in the whole word and he is so gentle with you and takes the best care of you. At times Jack will lay curled up in a ball and allow you to mount him while you smack him in the back in victory!!

I love tickling you, but that is nothing new…your siblings have had to endure it too, but I love to getchu, getchu, getchu, just above your chest and by your thigh…I can get you laughing like no one else.

You started saying da da da da da, and I thought for sure you would land on dada soon for me, but somehow you managed to bypass that and go straight to mama!! What’s up with that?!? Now anything of significance is mama…your hungry, you want the person holding to take you somewhere, ME, everything is mama! At least it makes mama’s heart full…and mine too.

Also, you walking!! Atta boy!! I guess having two older siblings to learn from really pushed you to wanting to get out there and get dirty with them, cause you are our earliest walker. And it is super cute to watch. Once you get that waddle up to a good stride then you left arm gets pumping up and down, half in pride / half you just can’t control it!!

Bottom line Deano, I love you so much dude. You bring so much joy to our family. I’m looking forward to getting to know more about who you are, but the first year has been great!!

Valentines at the Wells

Valentines day has turned into a special date night with our kiddos. Following tradition, and he came home from work early with flowers and chocolates in pan and politely knocked on the door where Cora had been anxiously waiting for her date. She was decked out with heart patterned clothes and a backpack filled with goodies she impact nearly 2 weeks before. The backpack included a card for her daddy, pictures of her for daddy, a skirt to put on once they got’s to dinner and a few little toys to keep them entertained. And he surprised Cora by taking her to see her very first movie in an actual movie theater. He spoiled her with buttery popcorn and soda and they watch the movie Paddington bear. Cora reported that The movie was a bit sad but the popcorn was really buttery! They ended their night with a fancy feast at Coors favorite restaurant Moes. And apparently Cora talked daddy into a frosty to tide them over. Meanwhile I and the boys headed to D’ Americo’s to have our own date. We enjoyed a large hot pizza in true Teenage Mutant ninja turtle style! After dinner jack and I attempted to make a giant heart shaped chocolate chip cookie and watched a few clips from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. We both really liked the part where the turtle start dancing while Vanilla Ice sang “go ninja go ninja go!”

This little guy continues to be a riot and full of personality. He regularly makes me laugh out loud with his peek-a-boo games and hide-and-seek attempts. But, he also has a sweet snuggly side that melts my heart every time he puts his head down on my chest. He is so sweet and we are constantly getting compliments on how laid back he is and easy to keep happy from friends and Church nursery workers.

This month Dean’s 4th tooth broke free, Grandam had a full day with just him while I did my parent partner day at Providence, and has learned to wave bye-bye. Dean has also had a lot of interrelations with animals this month and isn’t too sure of them. He’s decided he wants to touch them, but he wants to be the initiator. He does not like animals coming up to him uninvited. He especially didn’t like the Stack families friend feline and would whimper every time it came near.  Dean is figuring out the pour of sign language and using his hands. He signed “eat” for the first time and thinks he’s so cool when he waves bye-bye. Tuesday and Thursday morning have been our special time and after the older two head to school we make sure we have lots of Mommy and Dean play time, sigh!  I am trying desperately hard to enjoy every minute with this guy as it just goes too fast.

Little Moments

Me: ” Cora you have until the count of 10 to get that toy and be back in your room.”
Jack (following Cora) “you can do it Cora, come on, hurry, you can do it!!”
Cora accomplished her task
Cora: ” thank you for encouraging me Jack’
Jack: ” do you know why I encouraged you? Because I want you to see Gods love in my heart!”

A few weeks ago Jack had the largest, ugliest meltdown I had ever seen, IN THE MIDDLE OF TARGET!!! We left the store immediately and I decided to pick Cora up 15 minutes early so we could get home and deal with Jack’s consequence. In the process of getting Cora, I walked into Providence and the school aide was running an ice pack to Cora who had hit her eye on the bathroom door lock and was really upset. In the height of all of this, a sweet friend of mine put her arm over my shoulder and asked how I was doing? (bad question) My poor friend had no idea what she was about to get. So, after seeing something pure evil come out of my otherwise sweet and adorable 3 year old boy and learning that my daughter was hurt I burst out with tears. About an hour later I asked Cora to help me understand how she got hurt. She explained that she tries not to use the bathroom at school for anything other than “#1” and that as hard as she tried she was going to have to do “#2” at school (a dreaded idea to my sweet 5 year old.) So, in pure panic she went to the bathroom expecting the worst!!  “BUT” she paused, “Praise God (pointing up with her index finger), only one wipe!”  And in an instant my not so great day turned around. Cora paused in the middle of her story to give God credit for a small miracle in her little world. I WAS THRILLED and decided that while I felt defeated, God was teaching my kids to see Him, to see Him even in the small “one wipe” kind of moments!

I hope they remember

My family, my home, and my heart is far from perfect. I am clinging to the promise that “He who created a good work in me is faithful to complete it.” We have days marked by tiredness, impatience, fits, and frustrations. BUT, we also have days marked with love and simple joys.

Yesterday was one of those good days and I hope they remember days like that when then look back over their childhood. I hope days like this are the identity of our family.

Yesterday no one rushed out of their PJs. We made a big breakfast complete with the oh so yummy smell of bacon. We ate with the “fire place” app on the TV, making it feel more cozy. Andy and I sat on the back deck with warm coffee having our own version of “couch time.” (Couch time is an awesome principle we learned from Growing Kids God’s Way that encourages you to make your marriage a priority by protecting a small chunk of time where you two talk uninterrupted while your kids are around. This has huge implications for letting them know that Mommy & Daddy are solid and they in turn are more secure.)  About mid morning Cora and I got to work on her homeschool assignments for the day while Andy and Jack headed to the office so Andy could get a few things done for work.  Even Dean cooperated with our relaxed morning by taking a great, long,  morning nap. After lunch we decided to reenact the the first Thanksgiving as this has been part of what Cora’s been learning about. Andy and the kids dressed as Indians while I and Dean were pilgrims. We played the whole thing out in the backyard where the weather was perfect. Andy and I made plenty of inside jokes to keep the reenactment interesting while “Prancing Deer” and “Bear Claw” showed us pilgrims how to catch and make food in this new world we had found. We ended with a great feast of leaves and sticks and a prayer of the Thanks. We continued in the spirit of Thanksgiving by having Cora and Jack make their lists for the little boy and girl they were making shoe boxes for through Operation Christmas Child. ( We took our lists to the store and filled our shopping cart with things that would hopefully make a child feel a small glimpse of God’s amazing love.

10 months of smiles ??

Dean has changed a ton over this past month. He is loosing some of his baby tendencies and starting to interact more like a toddler. He loves playing peek-a-boo, making us laugh with his Zerbert kisses and face smashes. He has grown to 19.8 lbs (25%) and 29.5 in tall (75%) His favorite game at the moment is playing fetch with a ball. He throws it a few feet and then chasing it down only to turn and throw it back again. It’s adorable. He also gets excited and does a spin move from his knees to his but that super silly. He has started gaining some interest in books and has a bit more of an attention span so we have been reading after he nurses. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to do with him. Every page is full of adventure and exciting in his little eyes. We are are working on some simple baby signs like, all done, eat and book.
His third tooth ( top right) broke free just yesterday (1/4/15) and his left one is in it’s way. It’s funny to think that at 10 months he’s working on his fourth tooth while Cora at this age still didn’t have any teeth or much hair either.

Our little Dean is on the move and getting into all kinds of fun with his big sister and brother. He is full of smiles and adventure. He can usually be found with 2 things in tote, one for each hand. He prefers two of a kind, two toy cars, two markers, two link’n logs. And once he’s found his 2 things, he will keep them until they are pried out of his hands.

Dean’s first thanksgiving was eventful. Andy and I left for a WHOLE weekend to relax and enjoy a thanksgiving with our Life group while the kids stayed home with Molly and Cami. This was Dean’s first full weekend without us and I was sad to say good bye. But ready for a Mommy break. He did pretty well but ended up needing a few middle of the night snuggles since he seemed to be missing mommy. We even had a special visit from my long list college friend, Kim! We also headed down to Port Charlotte for Thanksgiving day at Dave’s house with the Wells family. Then we headed to the cabin the day after, to spend time with my family and enjoy the cabin. The kids all enjoyed uncle Ryan’s four wheelers, grandma’s new bow and arrow, and fireside Smore’s.

Life group retreat

I don’t often write direct posts about our amazing life group. But they are the behind-the-scenes support, encouragement, and help behind all the posts I do write about. Our Life Group has had the privilege of meeting together every Tuesday night for the past eight or nine years. Some couples have come and gone and new ones have join us but regardless of how God changes it with time it has always been a group characterized by couples earnestly seeking the Lord in their daily lives and an unusual commitment to each other that is hard to find anywhere else in this world.

This past weekend we made a life group retreat a priority. It came at a sacrifice for our budgets and our calendars, but it was totally worth it. We enjoyed sitting up playing games at night. Relaxing and hanging out together. Cooking a fabulous Thanksgiving feast, and most importantly worshiping and praying together. I am reminded that with the privilege of being part of a faith family like this we also have a responsibility to use it as a foundation to do some crazy things for His kingdom.
